First arguments heard since Justice Ginsburg’s passing.
On Monday, the Supreme Court began hearing its first cases of the October 2020 term. The arguments heard on Monday are the first the court has heard since the passing of Justice Ginsburg last month. The case of Carney v. Adams is looking at the question of partisanship in the judicial system of Delaware, and the case of Texas v. New Mexico seeks to answer questions of river evaporation losses being correctly allocated between the two states.
The court is expected to hear many impactful cases this term as the future of President Trump’s nominee remains uncertain as the November election is less than 30 days away and the president in the hospital for COVID-19. Cases expected to be heard this term include the future of the Affordable Care Act and questions of religious freedom exemptions in anti-discrimination laws.
